I can't really explain the gameplay much to you, but this is one of those games that I once upon a time owned on CD and loved to heck and back when I was younger.
I couldn't for the life of me tell you why I like it so much.. 6/10

Is an old arcade game. Got cheap and it works.

Pros:
- Classic arcade type gameplay.
- Has secret levels/puzzles (small amount).
- Little or no bugs or compatability issues. (Win 7)

Cons:
- No update to interface. If someone were to re-make this game with nice interface/graphics, this game would become completely redundant.

Other:
- Dated. Popcap knows how to make great pick-up-and-play games, and this is no exception. It's fast-paced fun that anyone can enjoy. My only gripe with it is that because of its story mode, I find it really hard to recommend this one to anyone but the absolute hard-core players. My reasoning for this is because the levels get so fast-paced, and so difficult, they they border on impossible, and that really gets aggrevating when the player just wants to see what happens next in the story.
My tip for putting a story mode into a puzzle game, make it its own separate mode with it's own gameplay gimmicks, so that it can be beaten.

That's really a minor complint, and it caused me to damage one of my computer hard drives to the point where I could still access the data, but it would constantly freeze whenever I tried to do anything ever on it. I wound up having to pull it and put in a new one.

Anyway, on its own, this game is a lot of fun, but its story mode leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the levels border on impossible, and whats worse, if you stop playing for a long perioud of time, than any progress you made, and unlocked characters, you gotta do it all over again.. the artstyle scared me but its a good game nonetheless. All Pop Cap's games are just perfect. Easy to learn, "plug & play" but, with increasing difficulty and clear instructions before every new thing to learn. Intense rythm, you are always clicking the mouse, no time to rest. Original, they can be based on anything else but they do their own way and with outstanding imagination. The right difficulty at the right time, to maintain the interest. Variated play modes. Ridiculous simple controls, usually just the mouse and their two buttons, some times the arrows pad is also neeced but, that's all. Very good music and sound effects....
Well, if you already played Zuma, you know what I mean but, they have other interesting titles and this is one of them.
Highly recommeded for casual tmes, when you are in a hurry and want to play just a bit or, for that "in between big games" time.. AstroPop Deluxe is one of the seemingly forgotten and less popular PopCap games that was a match-four before the days of money grabbing mobile games. It still has that 90s feel while also easily appealing to those who have only ever played these sorts of strategy games outside of the mobile market, and still holds up fairly well to this day, as it usually is with PopCap's titles.

You start out by playing as one of two astronauts, each of them going out to save one of the other two astronauts available. The "story" itself only takes a couple hours to get through, detailing the quest of the two starter characters to save their friends, after which endless mode unlocks. Each character has a special ability that can be unlocked to help you clear waves of ever increasing and ever changing blocks. The gameplay is fairly simple, attach colored blocks from the playing field to your spaceship and launch them at other blocks to make a match, clearing the path for your ship to move forward. Certain blocks have special abilities to help you clear your way, and other blocks only exist to halt your progress further. AstroPop is one of those games that goes on endlessly, as long as you have the skill to keep up with levels that increase in difficulty.

The gameplay is very solid for a 12 year old game - simple enough to be accesable to everyone yet challenging enough that there is a challenge for those who want one. The sound effects and visuals are really easy to just get lost in, with vibrant colors and particle effects on large combos and matches. It's a very flashy, vibrant and visually appealing game with shape modes for those with colorblindness. The sound effects and combo noises paired with the visual effects make it all the more satisfying when a good match is made, and doesn't interupt the flow of the gameplay just for flair.

AstroPop makes a cute game for all ages, simple enough to play but with a strategy curve to master. I first played this years ago as a young child, and could see children today still enjoying this game and its simple mechanics, as well as the adults that grew up in this era of computer gaming. As with all of PopCap's games, AstroPop is fairly cheap on Steam and offers an endless strategy experience for anyone who enjoys these mobile-esque games. For puzzle and strategy lovers of all ages, I highly recommend picking this game up, even if on a sale, and giving it a try.
